Police in Ghana’s Ashanti Region prevented an armed robbery along the Tutuka-Akrofuom road in Obuasi following a rapid response to a distress call.
Officers from the Obuasi Divisional Command intercepted a gang of robbers who fled into nearby bushes upon arrival, abandoning two unregistered motorbikes and a machete at the scene.
During pursuit, officers arrested one suspect, Pascal Yenkye, who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg while attempting to escape on a motorbike. Yenkye is receiving medical treatment under police guard while authorities continue a manhunt for his accomplices.
The Ghana Police Service affirmed its commitment to public safety in an official statement, urging citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts nationwide. The incident underscores ongoing operations to combat highway crime in the region.
