Ghana has been ranked as the 125th happiest country in the world, and 19th in Africa, in a surprising 2025 World Happiness Report.
Ghana, with a score of 4.340 on the World Happiness Index, was ranked below 18 other African countries, including known conflict zones such as Somalia and Chad, and neighbors Nigeria, Benin, and Burkina Faso.
The ranking was a drop from 2024, when Ghana was ranked the 120th happiest country in the world.
Ghana has steadily dropped in the rankings since 2021, when it peaked at 91st in the world with a Happiness Index score of 5.148. As most Ghanaians know, the previous NPP government completely lost the plot in 2022 after major corruption scandals during COVID and unchecked spending towards the 2020 elections. In December 2022, Ghana experienced its worst economic period in years, with inflation reaching a staggering 54%. The cost of living skyrocketed and the standard of living sharply fell. The country never recovered, leading to the NPP party being wiped out in the 2024 elections.
All this has led to Ghana’s decline, leading to a current ranking below many countries Ghanaians would be shocked about. Below is the 2025 World Happiness Report for Africa.
