The Ghana Table Tennis Association have officially launched the WTTC West Africa Regional Championship in Accra-Ghana. The 2023 event will be hosted in Accra at the Trust Emporium from Monday 24th April- Friday 27th April with opening and closing ceremony scheduled for Monday 24th April 2pm and Friday 27th April 7pm respectively.
The 5 day event will host 9 West African countries including Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Cote D’Ivoire, Benin, Liberia and Burkina Faso. Athletes can compete in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s team as well as women’s team. This tournament will serve as a qualifier to the Africa Championship scheduled for later this year in Tunisia.
According to President of the association, “athletes will use this tournament to build confidence, compete amongst the best on the continent as well as enrich the bench fir team Ghana during the competition”.
Mr Afadzinu was also grateful to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their support Including the provision of Kits for the athletes during the competition.
For his part, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah reiterated the importance of hosting international events in Ghana. According to him, “we can always benefit we host these international events because it gives us an opportunity to increase sports infrastructure in Ghana.
There will be medals and automatic qualification to the Africa Championship will be handed to athletes who place 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
