Black Starlets head coach Kassim Ocansey says Ghanas 3-1 victory over Benin at the WAFU B U17 Championship was a positive result, although his side must improve their concentration and attacking play.

The win was Ghanas second in the competition and strengthened their position as they continue their bid to progress to the next stage. The Black Starlets produced an impressive performance to score three times, but Ocansey said the match also exposed areas that require attention.

Ghana appeared to be in control after taking a 2-0 lead, but their intensity dropped and Benin were allowed back into the game. Ocansey acknowledged that lapse before praising his players for responding strongly after the interval.

It means we have done a great job and we are satisfied. We lost concentration after we took the 2-0 lead and allowed Benin to come into the game and they got their goal. But it was good we came back stronger in the second half to finish the game with the third goal, he said.

The coach was also encouraged by the teams return in front of goal. He said the players had specifically worked on their finishing during training and was pleased that the preparation resulted in three goals against Benin.

Ocansey felt Ghana had enough opportunities to score even more, but said the final result was satisfactory. He also stressed that creating chances and converting them remains an area in which the team can continue to develop.

We could have scored more than three but Alhamdulillah we are okay. We worked on goalscoring at training and we have scored three today so we are okay. If your team creates chances and they end up scoring 3, it’s okay but there is more room for improvement, he added.

The result gives the Black Starlets further encouragement at the WAFU B U17 Championship. Ocansey and his technical team will now continue working on the squads overall performance as Ghana prepare for their remaining fixtures.
