Ghana is set to establish a Local Organizing Committee as it prepares to host the 2026 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Accra in August.

The president of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has announced in an interview.

Since securing the hosting rights from the Weightlifting Federation of Africa, Ghana has intensified preparations to stage a memorable tournament and welcome the continent’s top weightlifting nations.

Mr. Shaib, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, disclosed in an interview with GNA Sports that plans are underway to establish a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee preparations. He assured that the LOC would work diligently to ensure a successful championship.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Adams, has also expressed excitement about Ghana’s selection as host. He noted that the event aligns with government efforts to develop sports nationwide. According to him, the facilities provided by the federation will motivate athletes to strive for excellence and win more medals, adding that the ministry and other stakeholders will fully support the federation.
