Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has sparked conversations online after praising a Ghanaian barber while making a playful comparison between Ghanaian and Nigerian barbers.

The comedian shared his reaction after getting a fresh haircut during a visit to Ghana, applauding the barber’s skills in a post on his Instagram Story.

In the post, Basketmouth jokingly suggested that while Nigerians may claim an advantage when it comes to jollof rice, Ghanaian barbers had the edge in hairstyling. He wrote: “Our jollof rice may be better than theirs … but Ghanaian barbers make our barbers look like bricklayers.” He added: “This barber got me looking like a babe.”

The light-hearted comment quickly gained attention on social media, with users from both Ghana and Nigeria sharing their reactions. While some embraced the friendly rivalry between the two countries, others felt the comedian could have simply celebrated the barber’s talent without appearing to criticise Nigerian barbers.

The exchange has once again highlighted the long-running Ghana-Nigeria cultural banter, particularly around areas such as food, music, fashion and lifestyle.
