A Ghanaian man, Emmanuel Adjei, has begun an ambitious solo cycling expedition covering 10,000 kilometres from Munich, Germany, to his native town of Teshie in Ghana.

He believes the journey marks a groundbreaking feat for an African cyclist and is being undertaken to raise €100,000 in support of EduSpots, a charitable organisation registered in both Ghana and the UK.

Beyond the fundraising goal, Emmanuel hopes his expedition will inspire more people to champion educational causes and embrace the joy of cycling across the African landscape.

He explained that proceeds from the initiative would go into establishing community-driven learning centres throughout Ghana.

“I am driven to use cycling to mobilise funds, support, and raise awareness to ignite and sustain community-led change through education and empowerment in underserved Ghanaian communities,” he said.

The cycling challenge began on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with Adjei expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

He has titled the initiative ‘Bike2MyRoots,’ a name that reflects both a personal and cultural journey. He shared that he first learned to ride a bicycle in Ghana as a child, often sneaking rides on his father’s bike without permission.

However, the lack of proper cycling infrastructure in Ghana hindered his ability to pursue the sport more seriously at the time.

His passion for cycling was reignited after moving to Munich, where he found better opportunities and facilities to reconnect with the sport.
