Ghanaian teenager Kwame Sosu Junior was handed a start in Real Betis first pre-season friendly of the 2026/27 campaign, featuring in the starting line-up for the Spanish side’s 3-0 victory over German fourth-tier side Sportfreunde Lotte on Saturday.The 20-year-old right-winger was selected in Manuel Pellegrinis first eleven for the match in Germany. The line-up featured a mix of first-team regulars and academy talents, with Sosu deployed on the right flank alongside other young players such as Rica Fnez and Gonzalo Petit.Sosu’s inclusion in the starting eleven was a reward for his impressive form with the club’s U19 squad last season.He joined Betis in the summer of 2024 from Ghanaian side Accra Desideros. During the 2024/25 season with the Juvenil A side, he played a key role in their success, making 28 appearances and scoring nine goals. He also featured for Betis Deportivo in the Primera Divisin RFEF during the 2025/26 season.His performances earned him a place among the 28 players selected by Pellegrini for the pre-season training camp in Germany.The camp, held at the Hotel-Residence Klosterpforte in Marienfeld, included several other academy prospects.The match against Sportfreunde Lotte marked Real Betis’ first friendly of the summer. Pablo Garca scored a brace, and Nelson Deossa converted a penalty to secure the 3-0 win. Sosu played on the right wing, looking to impress the coaching staff and secure more opportunities with the first team as the season approaches.The young Ghanaian will be hoping to continue his development and earn further minutes in Betis’ upcoming pre-season friendlies against RC Recreativo de Huelva, Granada CF, Olympique Lyonnais, Arsenal, and Bournemouth.
