Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed confidence that Ghanaians will come to fully appreciate President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership and achievements once he exits office in 2025.
In an Accra-based Channel One TV interview, Otchere-Darko acknowledged the current economic difficulties and global challenges but emphasised that the positive impacts of Akufo-Addo’s administration will become more apparent in hindsight.
Otchere-Darko highlighted the significant infrastructural advancements, particularly in the health sector, during Akufo-Addo’s seven-year presidency. He asserted that the previous administration had yet to achieve comparable progress in healthcare.
“Given the complexities of leadership and the economic and global challenges faced, I am confident that once Ghanaians reflect on Akufo-Addo’s tenure, they will recognise the value of his presidency,” Otchere-Darko said. “It is often difficult to fully appreciate the scope of achievements while still in office.”
He specifically lauded the advancements in the health sector, noting that under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, there have been substantial improvements in healthcare facilities and personnel. “No government in the Fourth Republic has matched the progress made in healthcare under Akufo-Addo,” he added.
“The expansion has been remarkable, including the employment of over 2,000 individuals in the health sector and significant increases in the number of doctors and nurses.”
Otchere-Darko also referred to the Agenda 111 project, revealing that 95% of the hospitals under the initiative are approximately 65% complete. “This expansion is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and infrastructure,” he said.
Overall, Otchere-Darko remains optimistic that the Ghanaian people will recognise and appreciate the full scope of Akufo-Addo’s contributions once his presidency concludes.
