The Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, says young people are not inherently idle but require the right opportunities to unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Speaking at the launch of the Adwumawura Programme in Kumasi, Mr. Opare Addo described the Ministry as historic, noting it is the first in Ghana’s history dedicated solely to youth development and empowerment. He praised President John Dramani Mahama for championing the vision and committing resources to critical youth initiatives.
The Adwumawura Programme forms part of broader government efforts to address youth unemployment. Other initiatives include the One Million Codex Programme and the National Apprenticeship Programme, which President Mahama is expected to launch in Tamale later this week.
Mr. Opare Addo, expressing both pride and humility, told the gathering:
“I stand before you today with immense pride and humility as we embark on a significant journey to reshape the narrative of youth empowerment in our beloved nation.”
He commended the government’s commitment to resourcing youth-focused interventions, saying:
“I would like to take this moment to thank His Excellency, not just for making promises but also for allocating resources to these vital programmes in the 2025 budget,” he stated on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Opare Addo urged young people to seize emerging opportunities and actively participate in building Ghana’s future:
“This government is dedicated to fostering an environment that nurtures your growth and development. I urge each one of you to seize the opportunities and actively participate in reshaping your own future and the futures of generations to come.”
