Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has donated items to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate in support of the fight against cholera.
The items include: essential medical supplies and resources such as face-masks, examination gloves, coveralls, complete beds with mattress, pillows, gumboots, utility gloves, body-bags, disposable rubber-aprons as well as disposable medical hats.
The rest are methylated spirits, drip stands, mackintosh, disposable gowns, disposable hair-nets, cotton swabs, Wellington boots and chlorine among others.
“The foundation in total spent an amount of GH¢272,625 on procuring these items; and this is also in response to cholera outbreaks,” Madam Ayishetu Mohammed, Project Coordinator-Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, told the media during a brief presentation.
“Prior to this, the Foundation also provided sanitation tools such as brooms, cutlasses, shovels, scrubbing brushes, rakes and dustbins to Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) teams in the Tarkwa and Damang host communities to maintain cleaner environments; thus reducing the risk of disease and fostering healthier living conditions for host community members,” she said.
Already, she said, the Foundation has invested over US$3million in the past 20 years on improving the health of people in host communities.
She explained that these donations play a crucial role in bolstering the healthcare system’s capacity to manage and contain the outbreak, as well as ensure the safety and wellbeing of affected residents.
