Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has assured Ghanaians and sympathisers of late Christian Atsu to expect a befitting burial of the former Black Stars forward.
The mortal remains of Atsu touched down in Accra on Sunday evening at the Kotoka International Airport after he was confirmed dead a day earlier.
The player could not survive after an earthquake struck in Turkey some two weeks ago leaving him under the rubble.
Speaking at the airport, Dr. Bawumia sent condolences to the family once more as well as other bereaved parties while assuring of government’s full involvement in the burial.
“I would like to extend my condolences to all of them[Atsu’s siblings] and the entire family for this deep loss. I would also like to extend my condolences to the footballing fraternity. Atsu played for the Black Stars and he was much loved. We will surely miss him.
“I will like to extend my condolences to the Ghana Supporters Union and to all Ghanaians for this loss. It is a painful loss, a very painful one.
“But as the good Lord says in the good book that from him we came and to him shall we return. We pray that the soul of Christian Atsu rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord and I will like to say that the state will be fully involved with the family in providing him with a befitting burial,” he said.
Atsu scored nine goals in 65 appearances for Ghana.
