Great Olympics continued their recent impressive record against city rivals Hearts of Oak in the Mantse derby, securing a 1-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The match was played in front of a low crowd, but the intensity was high with both teams going hard into tackles from the start.

The first half was goalless, and it seemed the match would remain so in the second half. However, at the 50th minute mark, Michael Osei was brought down in the box, earning a penalty for Great Olympics.

Samuel Ashie Quaye confidently stepped up to the spot and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, striking the ball into the bottom corner to give his side the lead.

Despite late pressure from Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics held firm to secure the victory and extend their unbeaten run against their rivals to six games.

The win sees Great Olympics move up to 12th on the league log with 26 points, while Hearts of Oak drop out of the top four.

Overall, it was a well-deserved victory for Great Olympics, who showed their resilience and determination to claim all three points.

The result will no doubt give them confidence heading into their next match, while Hearts of Oak will be left to reflect on what went wrong and how they can bounce back from this defeat with their next game against fierce rivals Asante Kotoko.
