Black Stars video analyst and set-piece coach Gregory De Grauwe says his experience with Ghanas senior national team has provided valuable lessons as he begins his new role as first-team set-piece coach at Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood.De Grauwe remains part of the Black Stars technical team and will combine his responsibilities with Ghana with his new club role in Saudi Arabia. The Belgian was part of Ghanas technical team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he worked closely with the players and coaching staff on match preparation and set-piece situations.Ghana scored twice during the tournament, with one of the goals coming from a set-piece in the Black Stars match against Croatia.Speaking exclusively to GHANASoccernet.com, De Grauwe said working at international level has improved his communication and coaching methods because of the limited time available with players.Absolutely. Working with the Black Stars has taught me a lot. At international level, the time you have with the players is very limited, so your communication and coaching have to be clear and effective, De Grauwe said.He also spoke about the value of learning directly from the players he worked with during his time with Ghana.Ive also learned a lot from communicating and exchanging ideas with players who play at the highest level. Listening to their views and discussing different situations with them has helped me develop as a coach, he added.De Grauwe said working with players from different backgrounds and with different personalities has also broadened his experience.Working with different personalities and football backgrounds has been a great experience, and Im sure I can take many of those lessons into my daily work at club level, he said. The Belgian joined the Black Stars technical setup in March 2025 on the recommendation of assistant coach Desmond Ofei.He will now apply the experience gained with Ghana to his work at Al Kholood while continuing his duties with the Black Stars.
