Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Hasaacas Ladies narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League despite a resounding 6-1 win over Niger’s AS Garde National in their final Group B match on Saturday.
Hasaacas needed to win by a six-goal margin to edge out Omnisports Etincelle for a semifinal spot. Both teams finished with four points, but Omnisports advanced due to a superior goal difference.
Hasaacas took control early, with Fatoumata Tamboura opening the scoring after 20 minutes. Grace Animah and Comfort Owusu added two more goals, making it 3-0 before AS Garde pulled one back before halftime.
In the second half, Comfort Owusu netted her second to restore Hasaacas’ three-goal cushion. Despite numerous opportunities, they couldn’t extend their lead further until stoppage time when Comfort Owusu and Abigail Sakyiwaa scored to make it 6-1.
Unfortunately, the victory fell just short of securing a place in the next round. Hasaacas Ladies will now refocus on domestic competitions.
