The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has embarked on a working visit to the Tamale Teaching Hospital following widespread social media reports alleging malpractice by healthcare personnel that allegedly led to the death of a referred patient.
The visit is aimed at gathering first-hand information and assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident. The minister’s move comes in response to growing public concern after the case gained traction online over the weekend.
According to the allegations, the deceased patient had been referred to the hospital, but lapses in care—reportedly involving staff misconduct—contributed to the tragic outcome. The reports sparked outrage, prompting the Health Minister to swiftly intervene.
During the visit, Mr Akandoh met with hospital management and toured key areas of the facility to better understand the internal processes and challenges.

The situation grew more tense when the Minister made an unscheduled stop to inspect the hospital’s public restrooms, where the poor sanitary conditions reportedly shocked both the delegation and members of the public present.
The Minister has assured the public that a full investigation will be conducted to establish the facts of the case and to ensure accountability if any form of negligence or unprofessional conduct is confirmed.
The visit has drawn significant media attention and raised broader concerns about patient safety, staff conduct, and the quality of healthcare infrastructure in major referral hospitals across the country.
