Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by Bechem United on Sunday as Matchday Three brought an end to their winning run, while Asante Kotoko preserved their unbeaten start with a 1-1 draw at FC Samartex 1996.
Debibi United and Port City FC recorded their first-ever top-flight victories, while Bibiani Gold Stars completed the weekends biggest comeback by beating 10-man Dreams FC 3-2. Aduana FC and Basake Holy Stars also secured important wins.
Hearts of Oak 0-0 Bechem United
Hearts of Oak remain top of the table despite dropping their first points of the season at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Phobians had been aiming for a third straight victory after beating Berekum Chelsea and Bibiani Gold Stars, but Bechem United held firm. Hearts controlled much of the match and created opportunities, yet could not find a way through a disciplined defence.
The result ended Hearts winning run but extended their unbeaten start to three matches. Bechem United take a valuable point into their next fixture at home to Dreams FC.
FC Samartex 1996 1-1 Asante Kotoko
Asante Kotoko drew 1-1 with FC Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena to remain unbeaten.
Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad made the key contribution, saving a 66th-minute penalty before Emmanuel Mamah headed the visitors in front in the 75th minute.
Christian Agyenim Boateng equalised eight minutes later, preserving Samartexs unbeaten home record. Samartex are second, level on points with Hearts of Oak, while Kotoko are fourth on five points and are still waiting for their first away win.
Dreams FC 2-3 Bibiani Gold Stars
Bibiani Gold Stars recovered from twice falling behind to defeat Dreams FC in a five-goal match at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Razak Salifu gave Dreams an early lead before Chris Yaovi Guede was sent off in the 40th minute. Michael Nkoah equalised in the 69th minute, but Mohammed Shaban restored Dreams advantage four minutes later.
Evans Adomako levelled again in the 81st minute, and Bernard Kesse completed the comeback in stoppage time. Gold Stars claimed their first win, while Dreams are still without three points this season.
Aduana FC also secured their first victory, beating Karela United 2-1 at Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro. Stephen Amankonas 41st-minute penalty was cancelled out by Nyaba Iddi Mahfuz, but Mohammed Shawkan scored in the seventh minute of added time to settle the match.
Historic victories for Debibi and Port City
Debibi United marked their first Ghana Premier League victory with a 3-0 win over Young Apostles at Debibi Presby Park. Kwadwo Obeng Jnr scored early and added a second in the 34th minute, with Debibi completing the scoring before half-time. Young Apostles could not build on their Matchday Two win over Basake Holy Stars.
Basake Holy Stars responded to that defeat by beating FC Ashantigold 04 1-0 at the AAK II Sports Arena in Ampain. Joseph Hudson scored in the 35th minute, and Ashantigold were unable to break through after the interval.
Port City FC also made history, defeating Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi. Francis Gyetuah scored in the seventh minute and, after Jamal Haruna equalised in the 66th, struck again in the 79th minute to seal Port Citys first Premier League win.
