Hearts of Oak defender Michael Awuah Mensah has shared his mixed emotions following his debut against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup.

The centre-back, who recently joined the Phobians on a three-year deal, described the experience as “sweet” but admitted feeling the pressure.

“The feeling wasn’t bad, it was sweet, but there was pressure,” Mensah told Hearts of Oak media. “As a new player, having your first match as a cup game against Asante Kotoko comes with pressure.”

Mensah, who impressed last season with debutants Nations FC, is expected to play a significant role for Hearts in the upcoming 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. Despite the defeat to Kotoko, he believes his performance was not bad.

“Thank God, although we lost, the performance wasn’t bad. The feeling was a good feeling for me,” he added.

Hearts of Oak will have a chance to avenge their Democracy Cup loss when they face Asante Kotoko again in the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
