Ghana’s final preparatory plans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a setback after Honduras withdrew from a scheduled international friendly set for June 9.

The match was intended to serve as an important preparatory game for the Black Stars as they finalize their squad ahead of the global tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The behind-closed-doors fixture was originally arranged after an earlier friendly against Jamaica also failed to materialise, leaving Ghana’s build-up schedule slightly disrupted at a crucial stage.

With Honduras now unavailable, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been forced to urgently explore alternative opposition to ensure the team gets a final competitive test before the tournament begins.

The Black Stars are set to compete in Group L at the tournament, where they will face Panama in their opening match on June 17 at BMO Field, before taking on England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Despite the setback, there remains confidence within the camp that a replacement opponent will be secured, ensuring the team completes a strong final phase of preparation before the tourney commences.
