Ghanaian actress and queen mother, Louisa Adinkra, has revealed that she has been divorced from her former husband, Yaw Frimpong, for about seven years.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with fellow actress Emelia Brobbey on the Okukuseku Show, Louisa disclosed that she has remained single since the end of the marriage, opening up about the challenges she faced during their time together.
According to her, she had always sensed that the marriage would not last, even before they tied the knot.
“When I met him and we decided to marry, a lot of people were against it, but I insisted on marrying him because I loved him and wouldn’t pay attention to what people were saying,” she said.
The actress explained that concerns about her personality, largely shaped by the strong and sometimes aggressive roles she portrayed in movies, created doubts among people close to her then-husband.
“But you know, I always knew my marriage won’t work. Because a marriage that when you were sent home, your husband is being questioned if he can handle you. Because they have seen me in movies and the roles I play so they actually thought that’s my character in real life and that’s how I will be in the marriage.
“So yeah, the first time he sent me home that was what he was asked, ‘Ei can you handle her?’ And you know, that should have been the signal for me to step away but I didn’t pay attention to that because I was in love,” she added.
Reflecting on the emotional toll the relationship took on her, the actress did not hold back.
“I have cried o… like I was saying that I wanted my Saudi story to be the last time I shed tears but… hmm,” she said.

Louisa further revealed that someone she was close to from her husband’s side played a major role in the breakdown of the marriage. According to the thespian, her husband had repeatedly cautioned her about a particular friend during the marriage, although he never mentioned the person’s name directly. Looking back after the divorce, she said she reflected on everything that happened and realised she could not point to anyone else but that same individual as a key factor in their separation.
Despite the difficulties, Louisa shared that the marriage lasted close to nine years before it ended.
Now, she says she is doing well and focusing on her life and children. She also revealed that she holds no ill feelings towards her former husband, recounting how he personally informed her about his decision to remarry.
“He called to tell me he was getting married and didn’t want me to go and hear it from someone and I was ok like I was happy he told me himself and I didn’t go and hear it from someone outside. He’s married someone in America. It’s ok it shows that we don’t have issues, it’s just understanding and other factors that didn’t work for us,” she said.
