President John Dramani Mahama has described himself as one of the many Kwame Nkrumahs the late Ghanaian leader envisioned would emerge after his death.

The President believes he is among the individuals inspired by the vision and philosophy of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, particularly his commitment to Pan-Africanism and African unity.

According to President Mahama, before his death, Dr. Nkrumah expressed confidence that although he had been removed from power, many more people who shared his vision would emerge to continue his legacy.

Speaking on the subject, President Mahama said he firmly believes Nkrumah’s statement was referring to people like him, who have embraced and continue to champion his ideals.

“When Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown, and he went into exile, and he was ill and dying, he said that they might have gotten rid of him, but there are many Kwame Nkrumahs who will follow.

“I can say that, for us growing up, we were inspired by him, and so when he referred to many Kwame Nkrumahs coming after, I think that he was referring to people like me because I believe in him and his vision and philosophy of Pan-Africanism and African unity, and as long as I remain president, that will continue to be my vision,” he stated.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has insisted that negative criticisms will not distract him from pursuing his agenda of improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He maintained that his priority is to utilise the country’s abundant natural resources to create prosperity for the people, regardless of whose interests may be affected by his decisions.

“We must take advantage of the resources that God has blessed us with to create prosperity for our people. So if that annoys people or if somebody’s ox is gored, I really don’t care. It is about the people I serve, and as long as I continue to remain in office, I will do the right thing by the people of Ghana, not because of somebody else’s interest,” he added.
