Defender Kofi Agbesimah has conveyed to Hearts of Oak’s management his decision to step down from his role as the team’s captain.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Phobians from Bechem United at the beginning of the current 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, took on the captaincy following the departure of Gladson Awako.
Goalkeeper Richard Attah and Kelvin Osei Assibey were appointed as his deputies.
However, after a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Legon Cities during Matchday 27 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu, Agbesimah expressed his discontent.
Multiple reports, monitored by Footballghana.com, indicate that he has communicated to the club’s leadership his reluctance to continue leading the team.
It remains uncertain whether Agbesimah’s request will be granted by the management of the Rainbow Club.
The defeat against Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side has left Hearts of Oak in 11th place in the Premier League standings, with 35 points.
They are set to face Accra Lions in the upcoming Matchday 28 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium this weekend.
