Musician-turned-politician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has disclosed that he has never been a fan of his own songs.

In an interview on the Upside Down show on Channel One TV with Nana Tuffuor Boateng and Frema Adunyame, A Plus opened up about his complex relationship with his music.

He revealed that he often disliked listening to his own songs during his early career.

“I did the kind of music I couldn’t listen to. When I hear people play my song, I wish it would just end,” A Plus stated.

He attributed this discomfort to the language and themes present in his tracks, which he felt did not resonate with him personally.

The artiste recounted a memorable incident at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where he faced a potentially dangerous situation with fans who were overly enthusiastic about his music.

“I had to leave that moment,” he joked, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the moment.

Despite his mixed feelings about his past music, A Plus emphasised that his primary motivation for creating those songs was to amplify his voice on important national issues.

“I did music because I wanted my voice to be heard, and I was that leader who did things to bring change,” he stated.

His reflections provide insight into the challenges artistes face in their creative journeys, revealing the personal sacrifices and aspirations behind their work.
