Ignatius Osei-FosuIgnatius Osei-Fosu believes Ghanas next Black Stars coach must possess the personality and leadership skills required to get the best out of the players. The Sudan assistant coachs comments come as the Ghana Football Association begins the search for a new head coach following Carlos Queirozs departure after a difficult September international window. The Black Stars opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Cote dIvoire in Bouak before suffering another setback against The Gambia, losing 4-2 in Accra after taking a two-goal lead. The poor results have increased scrutiny around the national team and placed greater importance on the appointment of the next coach. The GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have constituted a five-member committee to lead the recruitment process, with the committee expected to identify and recommend a suitable candidate.Osei-Fosu believes the technical ability of the incoming coach should not be the only consideration. He argues that Ghanas pool of players already includes individuals capable of understanding and executing basic tactical instructions, meaning the new manager must be able to motivate them to apply those qualities consistently.Nobody in the world is now going to teach Semenyo how to make forward runs. Nobody is going to teach Kudus how to make a forward pass. It is about how you inspire them to play, he stated. The former Dreams FC coach explained that tactical instructions can only go so far if a player lacks the desire to carry them out.If a player doesn’t want to run, no matter how much you have taught him where to run to, he will not make the run, he said.Osei-Fosu believes the ability to inspire players can come from several areas, including the coachs tactical philosophy, training methods and personal relationship with the squad. If you don’t have a coach who can inspire players to play, inspiration to play can be using tactics, tactical approach. It can even be your training session. It can be your personal approach towards human beings, he added. His comments come as Ghana prepares to appoint a new manager tasked with improving the Black Stars fortunes after a difficult start to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
