US-based Ghanaian actor and comedian, Michael Blackson, has expressed optimism regarding the tenure of Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Dramani Mahama.
The entertainer, widely known for his humour and philanthropy, expressed his confidence in the leadership of Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to revive and improve the future of Ghana.
This comes on the heels of a challenging year for Blackson, who had publicly expressed disappointment with Ghana’s financial governance in September 2024. At the time, Ghana faced economic difficulties, resulting in its default on Eurobond payments.
Blackson, who had invested in Ghana’s Eurobonds, disclosed that the financial setbacks directly impacted his philanthropic initiative, the Michael Blackson Academy. Located in Agona Nsaba in the Central Region of Ghana, the academy offers free education to underserved children.
Despite these hurdles, Blackson attended the inauguration ceremony of President Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Accra. The event marked Mahama’s triumphant return to power following his victory in the December 2024 general elections.
Taking to Instagram after the event, Blackson shared his reflections, blending humour with optimism. “I’m excited about the future of Ghana 🇬🇭,” he wrote.
“Inauguration Day, it was great seeing other great leaders of my continent, including the president of my beloved land of Liberia 🇱🇷, the new powerful leader of Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, the young president of Senegal 🇸🇳, and the 290-year-old Nigerian president.”
