Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing his inclusion in the Black Stars squad as another dream come true.

The 22-year-old is part of Carlos Queiroz’s 26-man squad preparing for the tournament after enjoying an impressive season with Leicester City.

For Issahaku, the upcoming World Cup will be his second appearance at football’s biggest stage, having gained valuable experience from his first involvement with the national team at the tournament.

“I feel amazing because, you know, it’s always a dream come true to be part of a World Cup team. I’m privileged to be part of the team and this is the second time,” he said.

“The first time was an experience and I learned a lot. I think I’m going to put in a lot to help the team get to a better position.”

The winger also revealed that preparations in camp have been progressing smoothly, with players responding positively to the training programme introduced by the technical team.

“Um, so far, so good. The energy and everyone in camp is ready, and the training is going well. We are just getting ready,” Issahaku stated.

“For me personally, I have enjoyed the training we are doing so far, and I think it’s positive because I can see changes. We’re getting fit and getting ready for the game.”

The Black Stars are currently based in Rhode Island, where they are continuing their preparations through training sessions and community engagement activities before travelling to Toronto.

Ghana will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 in the remaining Group L fixtures.
