Award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer/songwriter, Sonnie Badu, based in the UK, recently disclosed his inspiration drawn from Nigerian music icons Burna Boy and Davido.
The ‘Baba’ hitmaker appreciates the versatility and success of these Afrobeat stars, noting that he learns valuable lessons from their journeys to make significant contributions to the gospel music community.
During a recent appearance on UtV’s United Showbiz hosted by Mzgee, the gospel sensation shared how he finds motivation in the musical experiences of Burna Boy and Davido. He expressed admiration for the unique musical styles of the ‘Alone’ and ‘Available’ hitmakers and highlighted the global impact of their Afrofusion sound.
Sonnie Badu stated, “I am inspired by Davido and Burna Boy. I have observed the type of music they create, and I like to learn from them to incorporate it into the gospel space. I can’t deny that I don’t listen to secular music; that would be a lie. I do listen to it, and I enjoy it. I listen to secular music to see what I can do better.”
The gospel artist emphasized that there is nothing wrong with exploring non-gospel songs. He shared that he occasionally delves into other genres beyond gospel music to learn and incorporate elements into his work.
Sonnie Badu stressed the significance of drawing inspiration from diverse genres and artists, extending beyond the confines of gospel music.
