Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has spoken for the first time about his legal troubles. He says he is not guilty of any of the charges related to the failed Sky Train project.

In a statement released on Friday May, 30, 2025, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi said he is ready to prove his innocence in court. He also thanked everyone who has supported him during what he called a “challenging time.”

“I welcome the opportunity to clear my name and have full confidence in my innocence,” he said. He added that he believes in fairness, justice, and transparency.

The Sky Train project was introduced in 2019 to improve urban transport in Ghana. However, the $2.3 billion project was stopped over concerns about how it was being handled and whether it made financial sense. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is one of several former GIIF officials now facing charges.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, who once served as Minister of Education, expressed deep appreciation to his family, friends, and lawyers. He also thanked some political allies, including former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong and Techiman South MP Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah, for standing by him.

Their support, he said, gave him strength to stay hopeful and face the legal process.
