Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has criticised the use of VAR following the Black Stars’ goalless draw against England in their second Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars earned a valuable point at Gillette Stadium to move onto four points from two matches and strengthen their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

Now there was a big penalty appeal for penalty from Ghanaians in the 78th minute after Ezri Konsa brought down Prince Kwabena Adu in the box but Honduras referee Said Martinez waved play on.

Despite the positive result, Queiroz was left frustrated by what he believed was a missed penalty decision in Ghana’s favour during the contest.

The Portuguese tactician did not hide his disappointment when speaking after the match, questioning whether the video review system was functioning properly.

“I’m not sure VAR is still working at the World Cup. Do we still have VAR working?” Queiroz said.

The former Real Madrid coach suggested Ghana had been denied a clear penalty and accused the officials of failing to intervene.

“I have some doubts about that because another penalty they need to give to Ghana. Once again, VAR went for a coffee,” he added.

Queiroz’s comments are likely to spark debate following a tightly contested encounter in which England dominated possession but were unable to break down Ghana’s resilient defence.

The draw leaves the Black Stars in a strong position heading into their final Group L fixture against Croatia on June 27, knowing a positive result could secure qualification to the knockout rounds.
