Nollywood actress Blessing Onwukwe has said she is overwhelmed and lacks words to describe her feelings following the massive success of MONICA 2, which has now surpassed 13 million views on YouTube within 4 days of its release.
The actress, who has been widely praised as well as criticised for her wicked role as Mama Monica, said she is overwhelmed by the level of attention and love the movie has received from viewers across social media platforms.
Speaking in an interview on Yanga FM, Blessing Onwukwe admitted that although she had high expectations for the sequel, she did not fully anticipate the scale of the reaction it has generated.
“I don’t have words to describe it, but I am overwhelmed. I knew people liked part one, and somehow I knew they would like part two, but the love has been overwhelming,” she said.
According to her, she had repeatedly engaged fans on TikTok before the release, expressing excitement and anticipation for the second part of the film. Blessing revealed that she was on another movie set when she received news that MONICA 2 had been released, and was shocked when she went online to check for herself, only to see her pictures and clips from the movie already circulating widely across social media.
“I remember going live so many times telling people I couldn’t wait for them to see what we did in part two. I was just hoping they would like it. I was somewhere filming when someone called me that it had been dropped. When I went on YouTube to check, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
The viral success of the movie has further boosted conversations online, with fans sharing clips, creating memes, and quoting lines from the film, especially scenes involving her Mama Monica character.
Monica 2, produced by Uche Montana, serves as a continuation of Monica 1, which has also recorded impressive numbers, currently sitting at about 19 million views on YouTube just a month after its release. While the first part built strong momentum, the sequel has taken things even further, quickly climbing past the 13 million mark.

The thespian also shared how she landed her now-viral role as Mama Monica. According to her, it was not something that was planned, as Uche Montana personally reached out to her and expressed confidence that she was the perfect fit for the character.
“She just called me one day and said, ‘Aunty B, tell me you are available, I don’t see anybody in this role except you.’ I then asked her to send the script,” she recalled.
After receiving the script, Blessing said she took time to study the character and think deeply about how to bring it to life.
“I started asking myself how I was going to bring this character to life. I had to create a background story so I could easily manipulate, gaslight, and do other things as the character. So I told her I was ready, and we went on set to shoot Monica 1with all the energy,” she added.
Blessing went on to disclose that even before conversations about a sequel began, she had already predicted the strong audience reaction to the first film. Blessing said she told the producer that viewers would likely call for a part two due to how impactful the story and characters were.
Her prediction has since proven accurate, as the growing popularity of Monica 2 continues to cement its place as one of the most talked-about Nollywood YouTube releases in recent times, with her Mama Monica role playing a key part in its success.
