The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and flooding that affected several parts of the country on Monday morning.
In a statement, the Ministry advised people to remain where they are until weather conditions improve. It said residents who are safely at home should stay indoors, while those at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel.
The Ministry also cautioned against unnecessary movement, warning motorists and pedestrians not to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as rising floodwaters pose a significant threat to life and property.
According to the statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic, and carry out rescue operations where necessary.
Residents in flood-prone communities have also been advised to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and to report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service.
The Ministry further urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official sources for updates on the situation.
It encouraged members of the public in need of emergency assistance to contact the Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service on 192, or the National Disaster Management Organisation through 112.
The Ministry expressed concern for all those affected by the flooding and assured the public that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and safeguard lives and property.
