Prince Tagoe
Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has expressed his disagreement with the decision to keep Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.
The experienced Portuguese coach was appointed on a short-term contract following the dismissal of Otto Addo before the 2026 FIFA World Cup and guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 edition.
However, the Black Stars journey came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Following Ghanas elimination, Queiroz appeared to suggest that he was departing his role, but President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to convince the 73-year-old to remain in charge.
Speaking during an inspection of the Ho Sports Stadium, President Mahama praised the teams World Cup showing, describing Ghanas performance as one that surpassed expectations and insisting that continuity could be beneficial for the national team.
Despite the Presidents stance, Tagoe believes retaining Queiroz would not be the right decision, arguing that the coachs tactical approach does not align with Ghanas football identity.
Keeping coach Carlos Queiroz is a waste of time. I am not okay with his tactics. Ghana football is not about defending, Tagoe told Adom TV.
I don’t think he will take us far, the former Hearts of Oak striker added.
Tagoe, who represented Ghana at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, believes the Black Stars need a coach whose philosophy matches the attacking style traditionally associated with Ghanaian football.
With the World Cup campaign now behind them, attention has shifted to Ghanas next major assignment qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia as they begin their quest to return to Africas biggest football tournament after missing the 2025 edition.
