Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, believes the decision to retain George Boateng and Mas-Ud Dramani as assistant coaches to Chris Hughton is good for the stability of the team.

Boateng, 47, and Dramani were named as assistant coaches to the former Brighton and Newcastle United manager who takes over from Otto Addo who left the role immediately after the Black Stars exited the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Boateng, former Middlesbrough captain, left his role at Aston Villa in August 2022 to fully focused on his assistant role with the Black Stars and remained a key member of the technical team as the West African side competed at the 2022 World Cup.

Afriyie, who is a renowned football administrator with over two decades of experience in the sport, believes the decision by the football governing is the right one.

“The GFA’s decision to retain George Boateng and Mas-Ud Dramani as his assistants is also a good decision by the GFA for stability reasons. He was with them during the qualifiers and the World Cup so it helps with continuity. Even if he [Chris] wants to do an addition to the technical team, the GFA should allow him,” he told Ghana Sports Online.
