Popular Ghanaian musician and dancer Akosua Agyapong has encouraged fellow celebrities to be more careful about how they handle and discuss their private lives on public and media platforms, especially issues surrounding relationships and marriage.

Speaking in an interview with Nayas on Angel TV, the music star stressed that entertainers should not feel pressured to constantly explain personal matters such as breakups or divorce to media personalities, saying such issues should not define their public identity.

She explained that in her view, celebrities often expose too much of their personal struggles to the public, which can create unnecessary attention and pressure.

“As a musician, your private life has nothing to do with your career. You don’t need to grant interviews detailing everything that caused your marriage to end. It is a village life to sit on radio or TV to rant about your failed marriage. If it didn’t work it didn’t work,” she said.

According to her, some media personalities and show hosts who often probe deeply into celebrities’ relationships may also be dealing with personal struggles but choose to keep them private.

“The presenter or host asking you about your marriage might be going through worse than yours but he or she have kept theirs from the public eye or media. If she is a lady she might be going through domestic violence but they won’t come and sit on their shows and say it. If marriage didn’t work, it’s no one’s fault. It didn’t work,” she noted.

She further added that when relationships end, there is no need for either party to be blamed, urging people to accept situations as they are and move on without public judgment.

“If it is a problem, pack your goods and go your way. If marriage doesn’t work, it’s no one’s fault,” she said.

The ‘Kɔkɔɔkɔ’ hitmaker gave this advice while clarifying her own marital status during the interview, noting that she has been single for a while despite public assumptions that she is still married.

“Honestly speaking, I’m single now. I’ve been single for a while,” she said.

She added that misconceptions about her relationship status have persisted, which is why she continues to address it whenever she gets the opportunity.

“It’s on my tiktok that I’m still married, and I want to clarify it. I’ve done that on several shows, not just this one. The last time I was on Gifty Anti’s show, I made it known that I am single now and no longer married, and it ends there..” she stated.

Akosua Agyapong further dismissed any link between her comments and her past relationship with veteran highlife musician Amandzeba Nat Brew, noting that their relationship ended many years ago.

“Amandzeba was in the year 2000. It has nothing to do with my marriage, and I don’t want to talk about it,” she said.

She was previously in a relationship with Amandzeba Nat Brew before later marrying Prophet Daniel Asamoah-Larbi.
