‘It’s time to focus on female national teams’ – Naa Ashorkor fumes after Black Stars early AFCON exit

Ghanaian TV Presenter, Naa Ashorkor is advocating for more support and increased funding from towards the female national teams.

Her passionate appeal follows the ‘ early exit from the 2023 African Cup of (AFCON) accompanied with a shambolic performance in the tournament.

The TV presenter in her plea highlighted the excellent performance that the female national teams particularly the have been putting up in the past few months compared to the poor performance from the Black Stars.

“It’s time to focus on the female teams. The Black Princesses have qualified for the U20 ‘s World Cup. Last year the won all their games except one. Give them the funding they need, give them the support,” Naa Ashorkor said in her tweet.

The Black Stars exited the AFCON unexpectedly after losing one group stage and drawing two games failing to make it to the next stage of the .

Black Stars’ exit generated wide agitations amongst who questioned the Association’s strategy for the future of Ghanaian football.

Despite the disappointment from the Black Stars lately, the female national teams have rather won the hearts of Ghanaians with their excelling performances back to back within the last few months.

Currently, the Black Princesses have qualified to this year’s Women’s World Cup while the Black Queens managed to win all their matches except one game in the Women’s African Cup of Nations qualification round matches played last year.

With this performance, Naa Ashorkor believes the female national teams deserves more funding and support to help them excel more and develop women’s football in the nation.
