Renowned hip-hop artist, J. Cole , headlined his annual Dreamville Festival last night at Dorothea Dix Park. During his set, he addressed his recent diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar, expressing conflicted feelings about its creation and release.
Cole admitted reservations about the track, feeling spiritually conflicted and stating that it didn’t sit well with his spirit. He also expressed admiration for Kendrick Lamar and acknowledged the crowd’s love for him.
Beginning his speech, Cole expressed pride in his latest project, “Might Delete Later,” but admitted reservations about one aspect of it. He referred to “7 Minute Drill” as “the lamest shit I ever did in my f***ing life,” alluding to the diss aimed at Kendrick Lamar.
Cole acknowledged the impact of Lamar’s response track, “Like That,” describing it as “that bazooka that was dropped on the motherf****n’ game.” He revealed feeling pressure to retaliate but struggled with conflicting emotions, considering his respect for Lamar and Drake as peers in the industry.
