Jerome Opoku has urged the Black Stars to become more clinical in attack after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

The defender, making his World Cup debut, was one of Ghana’s standout performers throughout the tournament but expressed disappointment over the team’s inability to convert chances when it mattered most.

Colombia secured victory through Jhon Arias’ 14th-minute strike, while Ghana failed to register a single shot on target during the entire match, bringing their campaign to a disappointing end.

Speaking to Sporty TV after the game, Opoku stressed that a stronger attacking display was needed to ease the burden on the defence.

“We can defend, defend, but if we don’t get that one goal to relieve pressure off the defence, then it’s not possible,” he said. “You just need that one goal to relieve the pressure.”

The 26-year-old centre-back, who played every minute of Ghana’s four matches, declined to criticise the team’s tactical approach.

“I am not a coach, so I will leave that to the coaches. I’m just trying to do my job; we are a team, we stick together,” he added.

Ghana exited the tournament with one win, one draw and two defeats, scoring only two goals in four matches.
