John Dumelo, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has announced free transport for University of Ghana students traveling home for the Christmas holidays.
This initiative, titled “Travel Home with John Dumelo,” was shared on Dumelo’s official Facebook page. It offers free buses to assist students in returning to key destinations such as Kumasi, Ejisu, Konongo, Ho, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Winneba, and Elmina.
The buses are scheduled to depart on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from the Volta Hall Parking Lot on the University of Ghana campus. This gesture comes shortly after Dumelo’s victory in the fiercely contested December 7 parliamentary election, where he defeated incumbent Lydia Alhassan.
By providing free transportation, Dumelo demonstrates his commitment to supporting the constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon, particularly students, as they prepare to celebrate the festive season.
The initiative has been met with praise and is seen as a reflection of his campaign promise to prioritize the welfare of young people in the constituency.
While John Dumelo is providing buses for the students to transport themselves to their various homes for the holidays, his opponent, Lydia Alhassan decided to halt the free shuttle service she was providing to the students on campus.
She has since been labelled as a selfish woman who was helping the students because of what she needed from them.
