(Photo by Mika Volkmann/Getty Images)Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey has revealed that he feared his World Cup dream was over following the sacking of head coach Otto Addo after conceding costly penalties in back-to-back friendlies.In a candid interview with Michael Oti Adjei, the Black Stars centre-back opened up about the anxious period and how he managed to overcome the setback.”Yeah, I did [fear that I would miss the World Cup after Otto Addo was sacked] in the sense that I caused a penalty in Austria and then one again in Germany. So I thought that was the end of the story at that point in time,” Adjetey admitted.The defender’s mistakes in those friendlies drew heavy criticism, and with a coaching change, he feared his international career might be cut short before football’s biggest stage.Despite the anxiety, Adjetey refused to let the fear consume him.”It got to me but not too much. I just tried to leave the rest to God and work my way out.”The defender’s fears ultimately proved unfounded; he made the World Cup squad and has since become a key figure in the Black Stars setup. His journey is a testament to resilience, hard work, and trusting the process even when the odds seem stacked against you.
