Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence ahead of Ghana’s FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash with Colombia, insisting the team is ready to make the nation proud.

Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Ayew said Ghana had grown throughout the tournament and was determined to produce a strong performance in Friday’s knockout encounter at Kansas City Stadium.

The forward dismissed concerns over Ghana’s defeat to Croatia in the group stage, describing it as a one-off result, and backed head coach Carlos Queiroz’s tactical preparations to overcome an unbeaten Colombian side.

Ayew also revealed the squad has drawn extra motivation from the recent floods in Accra, saying the players sympathize with affected families and hope to lift the nation’s spirits with victory.

Reflecting on Ghana’s memorable 2010 World Cup run, he said the current team is eager to recreate similar moments of national pride and joy.

The Leicester City attacker added that knockout football offers both teams an equal chance, regardless of previous results, and expressed confidence his teammates would thrive under pressure.

The winner of Friday’s tie will advance to the Round of 16, where Switzerland await.
