Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil emerged as the hero for Genk in Sunday’s Belgian Pro League clash against Sint-Truidense V.V. as he netted a crucial goal to save his team a point.
The thrilling encounter at the Cegeka Arena ended in a pulsating 3-3 draw, leaving fans at the edge of their seats despite Genk going down 3-0 in the game.
For much of the match, it seemed that the visitors were destined for victory, thanks to an impressive first-half hat-trick by Aboubakary Koita. However, Genk showcased incredible determination, staging a spirited comeback in the second half.
Bilal El Khannouss and Toluwalase Arokodare scored in the 58th and 71st minutes both assisted by Patrik Hrosovsky to inject hope in the former Belgian champions as they fought hard to restore parity.
Joseph Paintsil rose to the occasion, scoring his first league goal of the season in the 85th minute. His timely strike secured a well-deserved point for Genk on home turf, completing a remarkable turnaround.
Paintsil now has a goal and three assists in the Belgian top flight continuing from his outstanding performance last season where his performances attracted interest from English sides including Southampton and Leeds United.
