The Judicial Service has clarified that Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s recent visit to the Black Stars camp in Canada was a private trip undertaken during his official vacation and not an assignment funded by the state.
The clarification follows public interest surrounding the Chief Justice’s presence with Ghana’s national team during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in North America.
According to the Judicial Service, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie travelled to Canada in his personal capacity and financed the trip himself. The visit, it stressed, was unrelated to his official duties as head of Ghana’s judiciary and did not involve any public funds.
The statement sought to dispel speculation that the trip formed part of an official government delegation supporting the Black Stars at the tournament.
The Chief Justice joined other prominent Ghanaians and football enthusiasts who have travelled to support the national team during the World Cup.
Ghana began its campaign with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring a stoppage-time winner in Toronto. The Black Stars are now preparing for a crucial Group L encounter against England as they seek to strengthen their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
