Ghana U-23 head coach Ibrahim Tanko has named a provisional 29-man squad for camping ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.
Despite initially initing 22 local-based players who had been camping at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence for the tournament, seven of those players have been dropped with 14 foreign-based players added as the team continues preparations.
Felix Afena-Gyan is not in the squad after initially turning down an invitation for the previous assignment in the qualifiers.
However, there are other Black Stars players who made the squad including Hamburger SV winger Ranford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer who replaced the injured Inaki Williams in the recent Black Stars squad.
There were also places for Nordjaelland forward Ernest Nuamah and Kamaldeen Sulemana.
Ghana is in Group A, along with Morocco, Guinea, and Congo. The team is aiming to bounce back to the Olympic Games through the tournament having missed out on the last four editions.
U-23 Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in Morocco between June 24 and July 8, 2023.
The Black Meteors leave Accra on Monday, June 12, 2023, for Cairo, where they will camp for two weeks playing some preparatory matches before the competition.
