Hearts of Oak’s task was made even harder when defender Rashid Okine was sent off just before halftime.
Richard Berko’s 87th-minute goal secured a resounding victory for Karela United against Hearts of Oak, leaving the latter in a precarious position of potentially dropping out of the top four and being seven points adrift of the top spot after the end of matchday 23.
Karela United climbed up to 11th in the league, the highest they have been all season, and the result should provide a much-needed confidence boost for their battle against relegation.
Also on Saturday, Accra Lions and Bechem United played out a goalless draw in Accra.
