Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, bringing his tenure as caretaker of the ministry to an end.
Dr Ato Forson was assigned by President John Dramani Mahama to oversee the Defence Ministry following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
He has since served as the caretaker minister while continuing in his substantive role as Finance Minister.
At a formal handing-over and assumption-of-office ceremony, Dr Ato Forson and Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei signed the relevant documents to officially transfer responsibility for the ministry.
Mr Adjei, who was recently reassigned from the Ministry of Housing and Water Resources, now assumes office as the substantive Minister for Defence.
He is expected to steer the affairs of the ministry, oversee its operations and provide policy direction in line with the government’s agenda for the defence sector.
The formal handover marks the end of Dr Ato Forson’s interim administration of the Defence Ministry and allows him to focus fully on his substantive responsibilities as Minister for Finance.
