The Member of Parliament for Ododododiodio, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, says the Kenyan protest is a wake-up call to authorities and politicians, especially governments across Africa, to have a listening ear.

He said politicians are voted for by the citizenry and as such, when politicians decide on how things need to be done, they must listen to the people when they disclose their displeasure to certain decisions.

He said the Kenyan government could have asked Parliament to hold on with the tax debate, which triggered the protests, and engaged the youth group to know their concerns before commencing deliberation on the tax.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and five other Ghanaian lawmakers who were caught up in the protests in Kenya noted that Ghana must learn from this and ensure that “the youth and other concerned members of the state are given a fair hearing during any state activity to avoid any undemocratic disturbances”.
