The standard of refereeing at the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship has been heart-warming, drawing praise from the wider Ghanaian public.
The Catch Them Young Referees have been in superb form, making some tough decisions as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) continues its efforts to encourage the young officiating officials in their ongoing development.
The talent identification Championship has been highly competitive, demonstrating an improvement in performances, player quality and, crucially, the standard of refereeing.
Thirty (30) match officials made up of twenty (20) boys and ten (10) girls, who were selected for the fourth edition of the Colts Championship, have manifested improved standards at the GFA Technical centre, the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
With remarkable organisational efforts from the Planning Committee, the Catch Them Young Referees have shown boldness and tenacity in the discharge of their duties on the pitch.
The 30 match officials have been in constant meetings and briefing sessions with GFA instructors while undergoing regular fitness sessions before matches at the Championship.
The invaluable experience gained by the young referees has been tremendous as the GFA continues to invest, encourage and offer support to the budding match officials.
An evaluation will be done after the conclusion of the Championship on Thursday August 8, 2024 to comprehensively assess their performances.
These young referees were selected from the ten football regions of Ghana after they exhibited top-quality performances during the year.
The development and recognition of these young referees are essential steps in ensuring the continued growth and excellence of refereeing in Ghana.
The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.
The Championship is aimed at identifying, training and developing young talents for the national youth teams.
