Ghanaian singer KiDi has spoken about the fear and uncertainty he experienced after becoming a father at a young age, revealing that the news came while he was in his final year at university. Speaking on the Konnected Minds Podcast hosted by Derrick Abaitey, the singer described the moment as overwhelming.

“Scared, I was in my final year in uni. I was scared, I was shaking,” KiDi said when asked about his reaction after finding out he was going to become a father.

The singer, born Dennis Nana Dwamena, said the responsibility affected his education at the time, admitting that the situation was a heavy burden on his mind. “It did affect, I had resits. It was a thing that was heavy on my thoughts,” he shared, adding that he was also still trying to discover himself as an artiste. “I wasn’t even KiDi at then because I was trying to figure out what my sound was going to be.”

KiDi explained that one of his biggest fears was taking on the responsibility of raising a child while he was still finding his own path in life. “I was still even raising myself, I was still trying to figure out my place in the world, so to come and add another human to that equation was such a scary concept,” he said.

Despite the challenges, the singer said he reminded himself that he would find a way through the difficult period. He added that knowing he had the support of his family, particularly his mother, gave him reassurance as he adjusted to the new responsibility.
