Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Alumni Association has stated to clarify that Clement Kofi Ohene Asare, who filed an interlocutory injunction (a temporary court order) against the reappointment of Prof Rita Akosua Dickson as Vice Chancellor, is not a recognized member of the association.

Ohene Asare’s legal action challenges the university’s appointment process, alleging procedural breaches in the reappointment supervised by former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, Chairperson of the University’s Council. Specifically, he claims deviations from statutory procedures in forming the search committee and advertising the vice chancellor vacancy. This legal action has significant implications for the university’s governance and the integrity of its processes.

In response, the global president of the KNUST Alumni Association, Kwaku Agbesi, affirmed in a statement dated July 17 that Ohene Asare does not hold membership status within any chapter of the association, nor is he a current dues-paying member.

Agbesi reiterated, “… He [Ohene Asare] does not belong to any of the chapters of the association, he is not a paid-up member of the association. In view of the above, Clement Kofi Ohene Asare is not a recognized member of the association.” This clear stance aims to keep the audience informed and clear about the situation.

The KNUST Alumni Association emphasized its role as the sole official representative of alumni interests, underscoring that only registered and active members are recognized as spokespersons for the association.
