The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he has not received any official resignation letter from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz despite the Portuguese coach announcing his departure in a social media post.
Queiroz, 73, who was appointed on a short-term contract to lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after replacing Otto Addo, suggested that he had stepped away from the role after the tournament, stating that he leaves his role with pride in a message shared online.
However, speaking in an interview with Joy News, Kofi Adams insisted that the government and football authorities would only recognise formal communication regarding the coachs future.
According to the Minister, Queiroz was not appointed through social media and therefore could not be considered to have resigned through the same platform.
We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media, the Minister said.
The Minister also revealed that he has not yet had discussions with Queiroz regarding the Black Stars performance at the World Cup, but expects the coach to submit a detailed technical report on his time in charge.
We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come, he said.
Adams explained that the report would help identify the technical and structural challenges facing the national team and guide decisions on the future direction of Ghana football.
He also agreed with Queirozs view that rebuilding the Black Stars requires attention beyond performances on the pitch, stressing the importance of addressing administrative and structural issues.
And hes right when he says its not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. Im happy he has stated it clearly, he said.
Queirozs tenure ended after Ghanas World Cup campaign came to a close following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Although the Black Stars reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2010, their journey ended early, with the four-time African champions now turning their attention towards preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
